Netflix On TV Gets A Major Redesign To Make It Easier To Discover Content

Video-streaming service Netflix, whose members watch a billion hours each month, has given the “biggest update in its history” to its TV app, bringing a visually richer experience with more descriptive results.
“We set out to deliver an update that would make it even easier to discover something great to watch and we think we succeeded,” the company wrote in a blog post. There don’t seem to be many performance improvements under the hood, but you can easily improve Netflix streaming on any device.
In the new update, Netflix will tell you why it has recommended you should watch a specific title, using personalized information based on your social network, viewing history or taste preferences. If Netflix doesn’t get it right for you, you can always use A Better Queue for worthwhile recommendations.
Each show or movie comes with three large images that provide much more context about a title, along with a short synopsis. Once you find something to watch, the new Netflix gives you a synopsis of the film or show, as well as details about the actors and director. For TV shows, each episode comes with its own images and overviews.
Netflix
Search has gotten a makeover too, and is more usable on TV with larger images. Apart from titles, users can also search for actors and directions.
The kids area—now also available on Roku and some Smart TVs—uses a blue background and “kids” label so parents see from a distance that kids are using the appropriate part of Netflix.
The update has rolled out globally and will reach all devices by the end of November. Since you can access Netflix on almost any platform, the update will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Roku 3, and some Smart TVs and Blu-Ray players. Roku 2 will receive this update early next year.
